Writing clear feeding instructions

“They eat normally” leaves a lot for somebody else to guess. Clear feeding instructions describe the food, amount and timing your pet knows, with individual details for each companion.

A cat’s familiar food, bowl and an open notebook prepared for feeding notes

Make the instruction specific

Record the food name, the portion you normally give and the usual meal times. Explain how you measure the portion and whether different pets have different instructions. Keep the note in plain language.

If a care requirement is essential to the stay, raise it before the request is agreed so the business can discuss whether it is within scope.

Describe the everyday context

Mention the familiar bowl, the place your pet usually eats and any routine that helps another person understand the instruction. Share known sensitivities as owner-supplied information for review. Avoid leaving important changes in an old note or assuming a previous visit supplies the current plan.

The latest instructions should be clear in the conversation before arrival.

Review changes before the stay

Check which food and belongings have been agreed and who will bring them. If feeding instructions change between the request and arrival, tell the business early so the arrangement can be reviewed. Use the request notes to flag questions, then wait for the service, dates and individual care details to be confirmed together.

Your next conversation

Bring the useful notes and tell us which boarding service you have in mind. Share your proposed stay dates, ask about preparation and wait for the arrangement to be agreed. Our contact page is the place to start that conversation.
